Solenoid Valves for water is used to switch on or off the flow of water in a pipeline by means of electricity. This is usually done with a remote switch by hand or electronic controller, like a PLC (Programmeble Logic Controller), Temperature controller, Pressure transducer, Magflow flow or Impeller volumetric meter.
Water solenoid Valves can also be used for Auto Changeover to Municipal on power failure or Mains water Change when load shedding takes place from Borehole to Mains Municipal supply line. The same solenoid valves can also be used to change the water feed from a solar or gas geyser to your house.
The solenoid is the coiled wire winding (usually in a black resin mould) with a centre hole that fits over a valve body stem tube. When electricity is applied to the coil the magnetism in the coil centre hole will pull up the core inside the stem tube (over which it fits) to either open or close the solenoid valve.
Normally Closed / Normally Open Solenoid Valves
The solenoid valve can either be normally closed or normally open. (Normally-refers to the state of the valve when the coil is de-energized / without any electric power applied / OFF state).
A Normally Closed Valve is Closed without Power (usually with an internal mechanical spring). When power is applied to the coil, the plunger or diaphragm sealing it closed, lifts up by magnetism and assisted mechanisms which opens the valve and allows media to flow through. Switching off the power will cut off the magnetism and drops the plunger or diaphragm with the internal spring to close the valve.
A Normally Open Valve is open without power (with an internal mechanical spring). When power is applied to the coil, the plunger or diaphragm that is open, will be forced down with the magnetism, created by the coil, to close the valve or stop the flow. Switching the power off will cut off the magnetism and the internal mechanical spring will force the plunger or diaphragm upwards, and open the valve or allow media to flow.
Direct Acting plunger type solenoid valves of 1/8" and 1/4" the function works like expalined above. In larger diaphragm type solenoid valves, usually from 1/2" upward, there is additional mechanisms to assist the small coils in opening or closing the larger orifices by ways of a pilot or assisted lift.
We offer these Solenoid Valves in Sizes: 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch, 3/8 ich, 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, 1 inch, 1.25 inch, 1.5 inches, and 2 inches.
Valve body materials are available in Brass, Stainless Steel 304 or Stainless Steel 316 with either Viton Seal/Diaphragm or PTFE Seals.
